GP TRAINING

We are a training Practice, which means we have to maintain high standards of General Practice in order to train doctors. Registrars are qualified doctors who have received training in many hospital specialities and are then attached to our practice for a period of a year to 18 months.

The aim of the training programme is to produce doctors who, on completion of training will be able to provide personal and continuing care to individuals and families in the community. They will also have the management skills relative to primary care and be able to audit their work with a view to improving performance.

The Health Centre has been a training practice for over 12 years, with Dr Gough as the training GP. In this time we have maintained a 100% pass rate for the specialist MRCGP exam that the registrars take (compared with the national pass rate of about 70%). Many of our registrars have achieved distinction in the exam and have continued to work as assistants in the Health Centre.

For training purposes it is sometimes necessary to video patients' consultations. However, recordings will only be undertaken with the patient's consent and intimate physical examinations will not be recorded. The camera will be switched off on request.
