Mental Health Courses During 2008

STRESS MANAGEMENT COURSE
This course is very general and can help a lot of people. The course is free of charge, with tea and coffee available for a small donation.

Aims of the course:

  • Introduce ways of coping with stressful situations
  • Help reduce feelings of anxiety, depression and anger which problems in life produce
  • Suggest relaxation techniques and give information on healthy balanced lifestyles

The course runs for 5 weeks and there will be 2 choices:

Starting 15th Jan 2008, with weekly sessions of 2 hours, 6.00pm - 8.00pm at:

  • Trowbridge Community Hospital
  • Adcroft Street
  • Trowbridge
  • BA14 8PH



Starting 21st Jan 2008, with weekly sessions of 2 hours, 10.00am - 12.00pm at:

  • Westbury Community Hospital
  • The Butts
  • Westbury
  • BA13 3EL

Admin info
We will allocate you a place on a course upon receipt of your completed referral form. However due to admin costs we will not contact you to confirm your place; please just come along. If you wish to confirm we have received you form, please call and speak to us.

POSTNATAL ANXIETY MANAGEMENT COURSE
Since having your baby, have you been feeling…

  • Stressed?
  • Snappy?
  • Anxious?
  • Lethargic?
  • Depressed?
  • Exhausted?
  • Unable to cope?

The aim of this 5-week course is to teach you about ways of coping with stressful situations and how to reduce the feelings of anxiety, depression and anger that are produced by problems in life. The course will teach ways of controlling negative thoughts, tools to aid communication and assertiveness and also looks at practical ways of building self-confidence. It is specifically aimed at new mums and the material is tailored to common difficulties experienced at this time.

Starting 14th Feb 2008, with weekly sessions of 2 hours, 1.00pm - 3.00pm, for 5 weeks at:

Admin info

  • The course will be run by an Assistant Psychologist and a Health Visitor from the venue
  • These are taught courses though there will be some group discussion. People don’t have to talk and will be free to decide themselves how much or how little they want to take part in discussion
  • A free crèche will be provided
  • The courses are free of charge, although a small donation for refreshments would be appreciated
  • We will give you a place on the course when we receive your slip. Due to admin costs, we will not contact you to confirm your place. Please just come along.

COPING WITH PANIC COURSE
A course of three sessions will be aimed at helping people to understand and cope with the commonly experienced ‘panic attack’.

It is a taught course and no-one will be forced to talk about their own problems, although there will be discussion times and an opportunity to learn from others in the group. The course is free of charge, tea and coffee will be available for a small donation.

Aims To:

  • Help you understand and cope with the commonly experienced ‘panic attack’
  • Look at the physical warning signals of panic and positive ways of dealing with these
  • Look at the behaviours which maintain and worsen the problem
  • Introduce some relaxation and breathing techniques

The course runs for three weeks, starting 18th March 2008. Sessions are two hours per week, 10.00am - 12.00pm, to be held at:

  • Warminster Hospital
  • The Avenue
  • Warminster
  • BA12 8QS
