Travel advice & vaccinations

We offer advice on all aspects of travel such as insect bite protection, malaria prophylaxis, traveller’s diarrhoea and altitude sickness. We also give any recommended vaccinations for your chosen country.

You may be referred to a private travel clinic for some vaccinations, such as BCG and Japanese Encephalitis.

We run 2 travel clinics per week on a Mon and Thurs afternoon, simply contact us on our appointments line to arrange a consultation with a nurse.

When making an appointment, please let us know your destination plans so we can customise your travel advice and vaccination requirements.

It is recommended that you start your vaccinations at least 4 - 6 weeks in advance, sometimes up to 3 months, as some countries may well require a course of injections. Ideally you should ensure that you receive your last injection at least 2 weeks before you travel, to ensure ultimate immunity.

It is never too late though and please contact the surgery if you have made last minute travel plans.

We recommend you access www.fitfortravel.scot.nhs.uk this will give you up up to date information on all the vaccines recommended for individual countries.

We are a designated Yellow Fever vaccination centre and can issue the International Vaccination Certificate. Please note Yellow Fever vaccinations need to be given at least 10 days before travel.

Rabies vaccines can be obtained, on request, but must be paid for in advance as they are not kept in stock. These can usually be obtained within a week, but will need to be given over a month.

Prices for the most common vaccinations can be found on our Fees for Non-NHS Services page.

When you come for your first appoitment to the travel clinic, please bring your full itinerary with you, including any stopovers on longer journeys.

Please contact us if you need more information or have any queries.
